Hummingbirds play a critical role in the ecosystems in which they live. Ranging across the Americas from Chile to Canada, healthy hummingbird populations are key pollinators for a wide range of flowering plants. From high in the forest canopy to open grasslands, from mountainsides to valley floors, this beautiful and varied family of birds, now mapped to 1km by the Half-Earth mapping team, is revealing new conservation opportunities. This information will be useful to indigenous, local, state and national entities to effectively expand landscape protections.
