Session 2: The Power of Mapping for Understanding and Saving Nature
Wednesday, August 26, 10:30 – 12:00 Central
Participants will be introduced to the Half-Earth hands-on mapping to save biodiversity design challenge, as well as to the online interactive Half-Earth Map. We’ll explore examples of guided inquiry based on the map, as well as ideas for students and instructors to design their own inquiries meeting NGSS standards. Several charismatic species and groups of organisms will be explored.

Dennis WC. Liu, PhD, Vice President of Education, the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation; Amanda Briody, Master Ambassador for the Half-Earth Project Educator Ambassador Program
A nationally recognized expert in science education, Dennis Liu has directed the production of educational multimedia in science education programs. He’s worked with scientists, education specialists, graphic designers, animators, and filmmakers to produce an array of educational products that have had a lasting impact on science education.
Amanda Briody began as a Teach for America participant. Amanda came to Baltimore City Public Schools where she became a veteran Biology and Environmental Science Instructor. Amanda has worked with various organizations designing and facilitating professional learning experiences across the US.
