Session 1: Reading Biodiversity: Engaging Students to Think Naturally
Monday, August 24, 10:30am – 12:00pm Central

The Half-Earth Educator Ambassador Reading list will be introduced along with lesson ideas for incorporating the videos and readings into the biodiversity and conservation curriculum. Participants will share develop and share ideas, respond to passages, and develop discussion questions and rubrics sensitive to their students’ needs. Some citizen science projects will also be discussed.

Dennis WC. Liu, PhD, Vice President of Education, the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation; Amanda Briody, Master Ambassador for the Half-Earth Project Educator Ambassador Program

A nationally recognized expert in science education, Dennis Liu has directed the production of educational multimedia in science education programs. He’s worked with scientists, education specialists, graphic designers, animators, and filmmakers to produce an array of educational products that have had a lasting impact on science education.  

Amanda Briody began as a Teach for America participant. Amanda came to Baltimore City Public Schools where she became a veteran Biology and Environmental Science Instructor. Amanda has worked with various organizations designing and facilitating professional learning experiences across the US.
